Yeah, wow. Note how there's no way into Michigan from the east coast without going through Chicago. Fuck the auto industry.
This was actually relevant last summer when I tried to get there by train... You can take a bus from Toledo to Detroit... but fuck that. |

Yeah the country is just dying for a Toledo to Detroit line......................................................
No.
Also some of those lines are not going to happen for a long, long time. Apparently the track is just not ready for high-speed, especially in the East.
The first one is that California guy. |

Look, those 'one every twelve minutes' families need some way to escape the crumbling ruin that is Michigan. |

Most families have a car. You can't effectively escape in a train, if you have, you know, possessions. Also they can go to Chicago.. |

Have you seen how much luggage they let you take on Amtrak? A family of four could easily take several cars' worth. |

Yes, my boss, who is the editor of a Railroad history magazine, is in love with railroads. He got to use a bed in a sleeping car for his double bass. |

Editor of a Railroad history magazine? This is... Harvard, yes? |

Just saying, don't get the guy started. He talked about the Obama train car for like an hour once.
He also explained why that high-speed line just isn't happening here in the East for a long, long time. Basically it's like building a whole new railroad, you can't just use the stuff that's already there. You need equal-tension line and bigger tunnels. |
