We're protesting some combination of lack of administration transparency and mandatory dining, related to the recently leaked report calling for mandatory dining. There is discussion in today's Tech. |

Um... yes. That was a joke.
I've gotten approximately one million emails about this thing. |

Look, mandatory dining should be enforced. Maybe not the way they're doing it, but it needs to happen. MIT students are terrible at feeding themselves. |

I'm not convinced that students with meal plans are any better at feeding themselves than students without, based on my experiences. Though I admit that people I know are probably a poor sample. |

I don't care what they eat but likely they would eat something that's not chips and soda if it was available and they were already paying for it. Eating food > not eating food. I don't care if they make the right choices or whatever nutritional nonsense people are spouting. |

I think it unlikely that any dining plan is going to cause people to drink less soda; unlimited soda seems likely to cause people to drink more of it. If there are people who subsist mainly on chips, maybe a dining plan would encourage them to eat slightly healthier food, but people who subsist on pizza are likely to subsist similarly if they eat at a dining hall or Verde's. |

People eating pizza isn't necessarily a problem. Pizza isn't as bad as eating just chips and soda. Or ramen.
You can create a dining hall that doesn't serve pizza and soda. It can serve, you know, food.
Let's take a DOOMTrip to Cornell and eat in their dining halls. They have double-wrapped (to keep the Gentiles out?) certified kosher sandwiches.
Their bakery (where the hell is our bakery?):

I'm not really trying to say that there is no possible good dining plan, though I tend to think that a good dining plan would be attractive enough that there wouldn't need to be any coercion of students to participate.
I'm not sure I've been to an eating establishment of any kind that did not serve soda since Japan.
Ramen is actually rather healthy when made properly. Of course, no one makes it what I would consider "properly".
Based on senior-house, I can only conclude that our bakery is the Au Bon Pain dumpster. |

If by properly you mean as instructed on the package, then no, it's a bowl of carbs.
Students do not know what is best for themselves, they should have little to no say in any decisions. Even if the dining plan was the greatest thing created in the history of mankind, senior house bitches would whine that they were losing their right to make terrible food and fuck up the kitchens instead of taking advantage of said greatest invention. |

You know what would be better than a dining plan?
Some real fucking dining halls. Just saying. _________________ ' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'. |

I do not consider instant ramen made according to the package directions "properly-made ramen", but that's neither here nor there.
I'm a big fan of people being responsible for their own decisions, and the right to make bad decisions. I'm particularly not a fan of forcing everyone into a global adequate decision because given free choice some people will make good choices and some will make bad choices. *shrug*
Also, I doubt your statement is any more or less true about students than about people in general. |

Really not at all the same as BU's dining hall. A real dining hall.
And why am I not dropping out and opening a campus bakery right now? |
