Don't know. I'm using Direct2Drive, maybe he's just downloading the Fileplanet beta? For what it's worth, I had to shell out cash to get this download.
I mean, it's cash I'd be paying in ten days anyways, so it's no big deal. |

I haven't given them up and I fully intend to play WotLK. If they'd left the title for first to 80 and first of your class to 80 I would even have skipped work to level.
But I'm not sure I really need something to tide me over until...January? or whatever. It's not that long from now. |

I preordered to game via amazon a long while ago. I only just looked up the open beta info (seriously, amazon.com is fairly awesome... very well organized), and I'm downloading the beta via fileplanet because that's what mythic is offering.
I didn't buy the game via D2D so I can't download it from there... and fileplanet is relatively slow.

Alright...
Pits of Zardok. High Elf Archmage named Manaran. Level 6 as of now.
PVP was fun, Public Quests were fun-ish. Questing was alright. Think I need to upgrade the PC if I decide I really like this game, the frame rate is painful, even with all of the settings turned down. They don't give you many settings to turn down, unfortunately--no smaller textures or anything. |

I'm annoyed by the frame rate right now, makes playing unfun. I THINK it would be pretty awesome if I could play.
Really, I'd wait and see what that other guy has to say unless you've got $50 you want gamble. |

I think some of my dissatisfaction lay in the archmage being a shitty class to start with.
It's about as survivable as a guy in a robe with a couple crappy HoTs and DoTs. Did I mention there's PvP? Yeeeah. |

Ok... unrelated to WAR, I got about 25 minutes of sleep last night... and I'm a fellow who likes his sleep.
As such, I'm pretty much a walking corpse atm... after I've slept again, I'll write a little review of the game.
As far as the archmage... from what little I've seen in playing one, it's a very tough class. If you aren't really feeling it, I would STRONGLY recommend trying other classes. I really like the various offense-tied-to-defense and power-building mechanics that the various classes have... the archmage's is quite a wonky one, especially for solo play.
Seriously, where's that witch hunter? It has 'Dante' written all over it. If I get some more time to play later today (damn you psets), I'll give the archmage a little more of a go. My initial impression is that the class is way too fickle and walks too fine a line for me, but we'll see.

Hey, my favorite WoW main to date was a fire mage, and I've always wanted to do some healing...
But early on, this archmage has absolutely zero punch. I did start getting acceptable dps later on. It could be more the pacing of the game, really, I suppose I haven't played anything with intentionally higher dps.
Not having a decent spammable heal is retarded though. |

Maybe this doesn't do it for you, but I'd seriously consider trying out a bright wizard if you like the casting.
My warrior priest is lvl 5... I think I'm going to role a high elven swordmaster and take him to 5 to see a different part of the game.
