So, it turns out that Obama won't cough up a birth certificate (they aren't public in Hawaii where he was supposedly born). That article covers some of the speculation as to why, but I've heard some things.
Word on the street is that, perhaps, it shows that Obama is not a native-born citizen (and not eligible for the presidency). This has to do with citizenship law as written at the time of his birth, and the circumstances surrounding his mother: when was she where, and for how long.

Obama might have too much citizenship. He might have dual citizenship both here and in Kenya. If this is the case, then he shouldn't even be a senator.
Obama... how is he going to screw up this election next?

What happens if it turns out he can't even be a senator? I mean I doubt that will happen but just hypothetically? Is that a crime? Fraud of some kind? Do they take his votes off of every measure he ever voted on and remake laws? That would be hot. |

That's an interesting question. Fraud requires intent, and I assume that such a thing would be all but impossible to prove without an email that said something like, "Damn I love both not being eligible for the US Senate and being a senator."
Otherwise, I wonder what happens. In any case... it'd be pretty awkward for all involved.

Are you sure there's not some kind of crazy, Jack McCoy, Law and Order style twist? Like the law school hypothetical where a guy jumps off the building and dies of a heart attack while falling and you shoot him through a window. You can't be charged with murder but you are guilty of attempted murder.
He knows he's not eligible (or should know) and does it anyway. Is such an email really required for him not to be punished? |

Let's say he found out that he wasn't a US citizen (or not eligible for the Senate) a month ago. No one is going to charge him with fraud for taking a few weeks to figure out what he should do. Could they strictly? I don't know, maybe. Would it happen to someone in his position? Not a chance.
Seriously... I need to run for president. Give it a few years and I'm doing it.
