Re-watching the original, the ultimate, Law and Order.

So far:

Ben Stone is definitely my favorite character from all of the Law and Order series. He is fantastic. The way he calls people sir while destroying them and his handling of the law is stellar.

A surprising number of cases are lost. Probably about a third of them from the first season and a half. I miss that, it's a more accurate reflection of reality.

This show is incredibly racist. (As I typed this, a guy walking his dog just got hit by a car. The dog's name? O.J. The dog's color? Black.)

Just saw Wade from Sliders/Natalie from Sports Night in an episode. This show is definitely a great way to see some up and comers before they hit the big time.

And she's the white girlfriend of an Asian guy whose parents hate white people. More racism!

And there's George Costanza from Seinfeld's mother. His father was a Jewish attorney last episode...

Ben Stone just resigned. RIP my favorite character in the Law and Order universe.

Jack McCoy just hit on the ADA in his first 30 seconds on screen. Also he looks like he's 5 years old.

Jack McCoy and Lennie Briscoe are just too cool for school... although you can't forget Ed Green and Van Buren... and to a lesser extent the philandering Curtis.

Julia Roberts...interesting.

Oh. She was dating our good friend Det. Rey Curtis at the time. That would explain that. He can't help smiling as they're interviewing her the first time.

And she is approximately a million times better at this than everyone else who has been on this show.

Hmm, they pulled out all the stops. They're using the guy from The Practice who was Lindsay's old law professor that defended the tobacco companies from Bobby's firm and then killed some guy, for which he earned an Emmy as best guest star, as the defense attorney.

Also she is all over the poor guy. His wife is in the courtroom when he's testifying, and since he cheated on her and she has MS, it's pretty awkward that he sort-of but not really cheated on her again with Julia Roberts and he's getting grilled on the stand. Poor Rey, he never had a chance.
