I don't really like this open-ended pick whatever skills you want each level thing. I want to be leveling to 99, get +5 hp, +2 mp, 1 str, 1 cha, with no choices.
It's too hard to know if I'm doing it right. And the whole barter/speech/influence/talk nonsense. I'd rather just shoot someone in the face.
Kefka never gave you the option to talk him out of being a crazy, world-destroying motherfucker. You just had to kill him.

Oblivion is such that unless you picked a diverse spread of a bunch of skills you never plan on using as your main skills at chargen you are doing it wrong.
Seriously.

The only open-ended RPG I can at all get behind (it's semi-open-ended):
My favorite RPG... with Legend of Dragoon coming in at a close second.
Also, I was thinking of picking up KOTOR for xbox... I remember it being the rage around DOOMCom... worth the cheddar? _________________ When I am weaker than you, I ask you for freedom because that is according to your principles; when I am stronger than you, I take away your freedom because that is according to my principles.

KOTOR is good stuff. It uses a pseudo-d20 system so if you are familiar with that you'll have the upper hand.
KOTOR 2 was almost amazing, but it got released way too early and without enough polish to really bring out the subtleties that would have rocked the RPG world. It's pretty much slightly better than mediocre now, but completely worthwhile if you play the first. It also gets a lot into the moral/philosophical side of the Force while also obeying canon... it just doesn't really bring it out very well because of the complete lack of polish/lack of a real ending. _________________ ' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. Our good friend and lord and master Matthew Woodring Stover should write KOTOR 3 and explore the moral and philosophical aspects of the Force. I still can't get over how good Traitor was, and how well he did that exploration. |

Unfortunately it's in the middle of the longest series of Star Wars books, but I think you can just read it and some Wookieepeedia summaries. It is really, really good. As I said before, far and away the best Star Wars book (not saying much). His take on the Force is pretty much what I always thought it should be, the whole there is no dark/light "side" and all that. Shades of gray. |

I may have read it, now that I think about it... may need to reread it. I was thinking of the one with Mace Windu, but Traitor is about the Yuuzhan Vong, right? Did I spell that right? _________________ ' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. If only that robot was for real.
The world would be a much better place with Liberty Prime. _________________ ' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'. |

This Morrowind game is awful. Could it possibly be less fun and more confusing?
At least Oblivion looked good while it was sucking. |

Yeah, it's really not everyone's cup of tea. If you don't think it would be cool to read in-game books and explore to find really odd out of the way places just for the sake of it, you're gonna want to look elsewhere. _________________ ' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house.
