This reminds me... I saw an interview with John Stossel, who claims to have an amazing way to prevent the extinction of endangered species: basically, we decide to farm and eat them. I think the idea is that humans/farmers would be protective of the animals in addition to actively producing more of them. Just look at cattle and chickens -- we've got plenty of them. (So clearly it follows that... uh, yeah.)
Sounds like a good idea, unfortunately they would have to charge like $100,000 per panda steak because they refuse to have sex in captivity and have awful birth rates.
