Seriously though, we can't afford another huge military engagement either economically or politically and that's all there is to it. Until North Korea actually nukes South Korea, we aren't doing shit to them except sending strongly worded letters (because they don't have email in N. Korea).

I know that. I just wanted to know if we care about reporters being jailed for 12 years. I'm assuming we'd just whine about it and "work" to get them back through "diplomatic means?"
Personally I don't care. They shouldn't have been that stupid.
Also, didn't Hank want to go to North Korea? Where is that kid? Weigh in! |

I highly doubt they'll serve the full 12 years, most likely because NK will use these reporters as a bargaining chip to get us off their backs.
That said, I'm probably going to Asia these next to summers, and one of these trips I hope to make a (legal) NK run. The sooner the better, imo, because I want to do it while Jong-il is still alive and kickin' |

It really is if you do it legally. Especially for non-Asian Americans and non-Reporters.
Some things I've found of interest:
1) By all reports from Asia not coming from NK, they didn't even cross the border, the NK army just crossed and grabbed them.
2) One of the reporters who was kidnapped, Laura Ling, is the younger sister of Lisa Ling. On Lisa Ling's National Geographic bio page, it says the following:

3) NK has kidnapped ~500 South Koreans and nobody knows how many Japanese since armistice that "ended" the Korean War. Japan acknowledges 16, NK 13, other places claim anywhere up to 80. |
