This thing was actually pretty good, and informative. Our good friends Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert are approximately as awful as you can be at long-term extrapolating, but their interpolation isn't half bad. The House books are pretty readable compared to the train wreck that is the machine crusade saga.

Look, I'm reading Dune as we speak... I'd almost forgotten how freakin awesome it is on all counts (except, notably, for how easily Imperial Conditioning is broken).

Best novel ever written... ever.

It's not that easy to break him, it took them quite some time, it wasn't like...oh hey we have your wife and he immediately was evil.

All I know is that Jack Bauer would have killed his wife rather than betray his own country/tarnish his honor in the way Yueh did.

Apparently there's going to be 4 of these beasts in all? I approve.

The Winds of Dune, August 4, 2009.

That's practically tomorrow. You better catch up soon.

Hmm... I thought it was just going to be three.

Look, I'm about to leave right know in order to get a delicious breakfast sandwich and read more Dune.

Damn I love this book.

Are you just going Dune through to Chapterhouse then into Hunters and Sandworms or are you going to try and tackle the House books and the three monstrosities which shall not be named?

Just Dune through Chapterhouse... the House and Legends books are not that complex, and I remember them quite well enough to not need to read them again.

Dune-Chapterhouse on the other hand... that is some fairly dense and complicated shit. Also, they're just damn fine books.

I just got to the part when Paul is out in the desert after the betrayal when he makes the leaps to super mentat Kwisatz Haderach++. What a fantastic scene.

So, I'm at the end of Dune Messiah (my least favorite of the original 6) and a question occurred to me: in Paul of Dune, is Muad'dib his ass-kicker-see-the-future-and-make-it-his-bitch-master-of-the-universe version like he is in Dune, or his woe-is-me-I-see-what-has-to-happen-and-can't-man-up-to-flavor version like he is in Dune Messiah?

Also, I can't wait for this Children of Dune for hot wet Leto II-on-future action. The dude is at least as pimptastic as Dune-version Paul... although Paul saw the entirety of the future before it was cool, so he gets props for that.

He's in his Jihad-makes-me-sad state during Paul of Dune. He hates every second of it but knows its necessary. It's different from the two you mentioned, because he's not really kicking ass because of the whining, but he's actually doing it instead of wimping out and leaving it to his son/worm/God-Emperor/thing.

Hmm, interesting... I might be able to get behind that.

Sometimes, you just have to jihad the whole universe.

Oh man, I'm about to start God Emperor of Dune (my favorite in the series after Dune).

Leto II at his worm-man best. Thousands of years of peace and tranquility coupled with the most overwhelming oppression possible... hawt.

Also a question: does Irulan show up in Paul of Dune, at all? She's kind of interesting in that she's Bene Gesserit, but just about the worst one ever. Also, it turns out she was in love with Paul the entire time.

I just finished Heretics of Dune. That is some intense shit, right there.

The Honored Matres nuked Dune... I'll let Heston sum it up:

True... although they nuked Earth into a wasteland at the start of the Jihad.
