So last year. |
I don't associate with you people, though. One of the kids here just got an email about it so I figured I'd add it to the thread. |

How can they be so sure? How do they know that the LHC didn't destroy the world and blast us all into some alternate dimension that is epistemically equivalent to our old dimension? Maybe this dimension is exactly the same as the old one in every way, except that coin flips all have alternate outcomes.
How do they know? I don't think that they do. _________________ When I am weaker than you, I ask you for freedom because that is according to your principles; when I am stronger than you, I take away your freedom because that is according to my principles.

Are you saying we're in Universe 1 now and not Universe A?
I've only flipped one coin since this thing came online, and I can't remember why. I know the coin was a golden chocolate mexican coin and the result was heads, but I'll be damned if I remember why I flipped it. _________________ ' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. Can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, or Earths.
I really only care about what our good friend and former 8.012 TA, Nobel Laureate Frank Wilczek has to say on the matter.
Quote: | Could the LHC destroy the world?
No. There’ve been some scary-sounding speculations about producing mini-black holes
or strangelets or alternative vacuums that gobble up Earth or even the whole Universe. But
Nature has been experimenting with LHC-type collisions throughout the Universe for a very
long time, using very, very energetic cosmic rays. As for those speculations, I got involved back
in 1999 with a different but equally fake earth-destruction scenario. As penance I’ve had to serve
on official panels assessing all possible dangers. Not just once, but a bunch of times. The thing is
safe. So if the LHC destroys the world I’ll be not just surprised, but very embarrassed |
Maybe we can have him and Alex's dad guest star on the forums. |

None of this really inspires confidence in me. I'm pretty sure all of this large hadron colliding will be the death of the universe.
Talk about hubris, man. _________________ ' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'. |

Considering it happens all the time in the universe, no, it really won't. Hubris is good. Look how successful the Egyptians were, and how they are still with us today and thriving. |

All I know about Egypt is that Crowley thought it was cool, which leads right back to Hubris. _________________ ' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'. |

Aleister Crowley. Come on.
He was on the Venture Brothers.
You know, that guy who gets thrown out of the zeppelin in the ORB episode. _________________ ' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'. |
