The materials project laboratory that I'm taking this semester is having final presentations today. Come if you want; there appears to be free food involved. My team is scheduled to go second to last from what I remember, but that might have changed.

Quote:
Final Prototype Evaluation TODAY !!!
25 Course III Seniors on 6 Teams
6 Different Projects
LOTS OF MATERIALS DESIGN, PROCESSING

WILL THE PROTOTYPES ACTUALLY PERFORM?

FIND OUT:

Today at 2:15 pm the Department will host the Final Prototype Evaluation for
3.042 (Materials Project Laboratory - Senior Capstone Design Project) in the Chipman
Room. The poster session with the evaluation team will last from 2:15 pm until 3:15pm,
followed by 10 min. team presentations with short Q &A starting at 3:30pm.

Refreshments available during the poster session.

Along with the great 3.042 Technical Staff we have two guest evaluators:
Dr. Kim Blair, Director, MIT Sport Equipment Innovation Center
Mr. Leo McGonagle, Executive Director, Gordon-MIT Engineering Leadership Program

The following teams and projects will be present:

Team 1: "Metamaterials"
Lindsay Hunting, Joy Perkinson, Zaven Kalfayan, Phyllis Xu
Team 1 conducted an investigation of lithography as a technique for fabrication
nanoscale periodic structures that can be used as metamaterials.

Team 2: "Team DISTANCE"
Ted Fernandez, Pantea Khodami, Liza Plotnikov, St Julien Palmer Rosemond, Hadi Zaklouta
Team DISTANCE's mission was to design a drip irrigation system which will
significantly reduce the amount of water required to irrigate a plot of crops.

Team 3: "Alloy Muscle"
Catherine Harding, Siamrut Patanavanich, Arpun Nagaraja, Boris Rasin
Alloy Muscle's objective was to develop a nickel titanium alloy artificial
muscle for robotic and prosthetic applications that will be powered directly by
liquid fuel.

Team 4: "Water for the World"
Sunita Darbe, Jennifer Feng, Johann Komander, Tyco Skinner
"Water for the World" designed a low-cost water tap to be produced by injection
molding.

Team 5: "Moon Squadron"
Katharine Chu, Marta Garcia, Krishna Gupta, Christopher Whitfield
Moon Squadron developed a prototype and method for melting lunar regolith and
other materials using concentrated solar energy.

Team 6: "CsP0wn3d"
Samuel Evans, Arthur Reading, Amanda Scampini, Reid Van Lehn
CsP0wn3d developed an efficient cost-effective system that uses molten salts to
absorb and store thermal energy from the sun.

This is going to be like the last course 3 thing, where Vernon and I show up 10 minutes before you're supposed to start and you're already done.

...speaking of which: Tom, when are you getting to this thing? I'm not going into this den of course 3 solo.

Umm, I don't trust any of the times listed, but I need to work as long as possible. I guess I'll get to Senior House at 3:30? Are you going to be there?
